Utopian methodology: Researching educational interventions to promote equity over multiple timescales

Background This article explores the methodological foundations for a utopian methodology as form of Design-Based Intervention Research (DBR) that can guide process envisioning, implementing, sustaining, and critically evaluating more radical forms educational activity systems prefigure goal an equitable humane education system.Methods We examine, guided by lens, examples from three national traditions designing implementing activities. Each illuminates critical phases in conducting DBR, combining social theory cultural-historical theory.Findings propose principles DBR: a) Some conditions sustaining re-generating should be explicitly considered; b) Examine recurring challenges to viability achievability design its learning ecology emerge observation over multiple times scales; c) Self-critique collaborative re-design new iteration.Contribution Taken ensemble, cases analyzed here illustrate broad usefulness we order maintain light challenge domestication embedded any change transformation status quo.
